Anthony Stark, Architect
(ASA) is a Los Angeles based full service architectural and planning office serving both public and private sector clients. The office was established in 1990 and is particularly experienced with regional retail/specialty/entertainment centers, residential and commercial mixed-use development and theme/entertainment parks.
With over 16 years of experience in architecture and planning, Mr. Stark provides a direct relationship with the Client in order to create a cohesion in terms of the needs and aspirations of the Client and the Project. Every design commission is a unique opportunity to address a Clients goals and objections and to creatively respond to these needs by viewing the larger community considerations, the existing built environment and the specific conditions of the proposed site. The purpose of the office is to understand the importance and vitality of “placemaking”, to fabricate rich, experiential “places” into all of its Projects. This philosophy was used to organize planning and development projects for the Six Flags Theme Park Company. Most recently the office has been retained to reorganize and master plan the campus of Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles. With its urban setting and the school’s purchase of the historic Bullock’s Wilshire department store a new identity to the school is evolving.
The office emphasizes design innovation, but there is a recognition that a design solution is necessarily an outgrowth of many outside forces. Therefore, the office seeks to make the Client and other governing groups an active participant in the design process. ASA can offer the strong experience of much larger firms, while giving a project the direct attention it deserves.
Prior to establishing his own firm, Mr. Stark served over five years with the Jerde Partnership/Los Angeles as Project Architect involved with the design of many mixed-use/retail/entertainment projects in the United States and overseas. His professional background includes consulting services to private developers, architects and multi-disciplinary teams.
